Make time for Daddy

He had told her to buy a new outfit. This had actually translated into going to the spa, getting a manicure, having her hair trimmed and done, new shoes...the whole works. And none of it was her idea.

She knows he'll want to see the finished product, but she's been putting it off as long as she can, holing up in her room quietly, and avoiding the servants. It won't last forever, and she knows it. This is why the new dress, hose and shoes are all readily available. All it will take is the summons.

She is not looking forward to it.

He may have spoiled her, but that made any chastisement all the worse.

She's always liked the garden. She tries to spend time here as much as she's able. It's a place of peace for her which is why she's caught a bit off guard by what he's saying.

She blinks for a moment as her heart quickens its pace. She knew this day would come, but she had thought she would have been given more warning. Immediately, she can't help but wonder who he's decided on.

Seth maybe? His family isn't that well connected, but he's shown interest and a willingness to be loyal. It doesn't hurt that Seth is easy to look at.

Her brows lift, and she keeps all of this behind her eyes.

"Oh? Already?"

Her voice betrays a bit of her nervousness.

They had always told her this day would come. To be honest Erik would rather she had the luxury of marrying where her heart decided as he had with Magda.

But sometimes it just didn't work out that way.

"Yes. I wish to introduce you to the young man soon." Note, introduce, that means she's never met the intended face to face.

It almost seems as if a that heart that was beginning to race stops completely, and a pit opened up beneath it. She caught on to what went unsaid, and she felt a chill take over herself.

"Oh."

It's all she can do to keep her composure in front of her father.

"Wh-who?"

He loves her, more than that he's fiercly proud of her for having his powers, but this must be done for the good of all.

"Alex Summers."

Her breath catches in her throat as her eyes widen on her father. She can't help it. Her hands pull away from him as she takes just the slightest step backwards.

"Wh-what?"

He waits for her to absorb what he had just told her. Anything he says right now will seem like trying to wheedle her into it and he'd rather she just had her outburst now and get it over with.

"B-but....you can't be serious!" It's more of a question than an accusation. She's not entirely stupid.

"A Summers? Daddy...they're.....and we..it can't possibly be safe!"

This whole thing has her frightened, between who he's telling her to marry and the fact that she is, in some small way, arguing with him.

"Child..." How do you tell your daughter you must use her this way for the good of all?

"He is not as the others, and an alliance is needed to bring an end to the fighting on both sides."

"We will let no harm come to you, every precaution is being taken."

"How can you be so sure?!"

If she weren't so panicked, she might not have even considered what she says next.

"All of the mind workers they have, they might have suggested that he won't hurt me!"

"They cannot use their tricks on me." there was a short time he and Charles Xavier were associates without hate involved and during that time he learned some things. Then he built a few more things as backups over the years.

"But..." She's rapidly running out of arguments, especially under his gaze. "...they aren't even Jewish."

"Lorna..." The moment comes where he has to decide if he can garner her agreement faster with the truth or a lie.

"Your mother was not Jewish, Crystal was not, I would be happier if he was or that we had found you someone that was that could bring the peace. But he is the lynchpin and it must be him."

"Child do you think it makes me happy to ask you to do this?"

She lowers her eyes as she slowly sits on a concrete garden bench.

"...no..."

"I too have married not for love but for peace and the family. I wish I could give you something more but this is what must be."

Her eyes fill some, but she'd be hard pressed to explain why tears make an appearance. Could be fear, could be sadness...could be both. She's not sure. All she knows is that she's feeling very alone.

She nods slightly, but won't look up at him.

"Wh-when will I..."

She can't bring herself to finish the question.

"Soon." There are a few details to iron out. "Be ready to meet him."

She gives another small nod, her fingers quickly wiping at just under her eyes.

"Yes, Daddy."

They knew. Crystal and Pietro. I'd lay money on it. They all probably know.

He smiles at her and doesn't draw attention to the fact he knows she's crying.

"I love you my daughter, and I am so proud of you."

She has many more questions, so she clearns her throat to pull it together. She gives her eyes another quick wipe then looks up at him, almost pleading with him with her eyes.

"What are the plans for us...after we're m-married?"

She almost doesn't want to know the answer.
