Lost and Found

The rebel lair's outer door opens, revealing a black sillouette of a figure.

Mystique pulls two guns, instantly levelling them at the sillouette's chest. "Is he with you?" It's too tall and lean to be James, but she's still pushed the remaining grenade out of her chest and into her lap. Just in case.

"I'll make the adjustments to the goggles.. it shouldn't take long, though they'll be nearly opaque.."

"Yes. I emitted too much preventative light. This time, I will conserve all. If you need the goggles, you will be able to see through them. I promise you."

A hand lingers on Silver's shoulder. "Promise, if they try to turn me, you won't let me end like Sooraya. With my powers, the light stored within me..." he shudders. "Promise me."

"Roberto, if I can help it, no one is going to die like that." There is a tone to her voice that says she'd like to promise him. That she'd like to say no one else is going to die at all but she can't make those promises no matter how much she'd like to say it.

"Of course." His tone is flat, unconvinced.

"There are some things I would like to collect first. And Silver, there is something Dani wanted you to have."

He holds out a hand, nodding for her to come with him.

Silver looks torn for a few moments at that. She can't imagine what it is Dani would have wanted her to have that Roberto couldn't just bring here. Still...

Finally, she looks to Peter, "I shouldn't be gone long. If anyone needs me, come and find me." Then she takes Roberto's hand, following him.

In his room, out of Peter's enhanced earshot, he wraps his hands around her face and pulls her into a kiss. "I'm not going to survive going back." A brown finger covers her lips. "Don't argue. We both know it's true."

"Roberto, I wo-"

Where did this come from, this sudden and frantic need to protect him? Was all of this always here, buried, or is it because they're both fairly certain that they're going to die in the next few hours?

"It isn't inevitable..."

His lips move along her neck. "You didn't see what they did to Sooraya." One hand slides up along her hip.

"This isn't just for me. Dani would've wanted you to take something for yourself. Just this once. I can give you that."

"Dani..." The name is a pain radiating through her chest and making it hard to breathe. One more name amongst all of the others, some more painful than others but all of them weighing her down. She can still recite them all, or at least that's what she likes to tell herself.

"Roberto, I would never want to replace, could nev-"

"I didn't ask you to." He stops her with another kiss. "Feel alive, Silver. I want to, once more, before it's all over." A hand slides under the hem of her shirt, fingers moving along the scars on her waist. "And you need to. Because you're going to survive."

"It isn't going to be over. Not like that."

Silver can't stop herself from responding. It has been too long not to yearn for more of his touch. Her hands slide to his waist, backing up against the table.

"You're sure?"

He answers by unfastening her belt. He doesn't want to rush this, but there's only so much time before dusk.

In response the table is cleared - quickly - and Silver pulls Roberto down with her onto it.

It has become all about making the most of what time they have.

His entire world narrows to one focus. Right here. Right now. There are no lice. There are no vampires.

There is only Silver.
