The enormous vessel has entered Earth's solar system - seemingly oblivious to all broadcast entreaties, it inexorably closes the distance to Earth. So insignificant to the ship's master are the beings of Earth that only the most perfunctory of the ship's defenses have been activated.

Raven gives Sarah a look. Being neigh invunerable makes the girl cocky. One of these days, that leap first and look later attitude is going to get her much worse than an arm in a sling.

She hangs back, not stupid enough to be the first out that door. There could be vacuum on the other side. In preperation, her skin thickens, the pores closing completely. A second set of transparent eyelids grow beneath her blue ones. Small membranes close ready to thicken and seal off her nose and earlobes. Contrary to popular belief, she knows how to seal her own mouth closed.

Damnit. Now that she's sealed off, she craves another cigarette.
